Solar Not Working?
We Fix That.

Yass Valley Solar provides SAA-accredited solar repairs and fault diagnosis for residential and commercial systems across Canberra, the ACT, Yass, and regional NSW. We diagnose and repair faults on Fronius and Enphase inverter systems, and service Tesla Powerwall 3, Fronius Reserva, and BYD Battery-Box storage systems. If your solar system has stopped producing, is underperforming, or is showing fault codes or monitoring alerts, our local team can diagnose and resolve the issue.

Recognising a Solar Fault

Solar system faults often go unnoticed for weeks or months, silently reducing generation and increasing grid consumption. These are the most common warning signs for Canberra and regional NSW systems.

Zero or No Production

Your monitoring app or inverter display shows zero kilowatt-hours during daylight hours. This indicates a complete system shutdown, which may be caused by an inverter fault, tripped isolator, wiring failure, or grid supply issue.

Inverter Fault Code or Red Light

A red or amber fault light on your Fronius or Enphase inverter, or an error code on the display screen, indicates the inverter has detected a fault condition and requires professional diagnosis.

System Underperforming

Your quarterly power bills have increased despite no change in usage, or your monitoring data shows generation well below expected levels. Underperformance is often caused by failed microinverters, panel soiling, shading, or export limiting by Evoenergy.

Battery Not Charging or Discharging

Your Tesla Powerwall or BYD Battery-Box is not charging from your panels during the day, not discharging at night, or is showing an alert in the Tesla or BYD app. Battery faults require authorised service and should not be self-diagnosed.

Inverter Cycling On and Off

Your inverter switches on and off repeatedly throughout the day, often making a clicking sound. This is commonly caused by high grid voltage from Evoenergy, a failing inverter component, an AC connection issue, or export limiting settings that require reconfiguration.

Visible Physical Damage

Cracked or discoloured panels following hail, storm damage, or debris impact in the Canberra or Yass region. Damaged panels can create safety hazards and must be inspected and replaced by a qualified technician. Do not attempt to clean or handle cracked solar panels.

Our Diagnostic Process

A structured, methodical approach to identifying and resolving solar faults across Canberra and regional NSW. No guesswork. No unnecessary part replacements.

1
Remote Review

We review your monitoring data, inverter logs, and fault history remotely before attending site. This allows us to arrive with the right equipment and a preliminary fault hypothesis.

2
On-Site Inspection

Physical inspection of all system components including panels, inverter, isolators, wiring, connections, mounting, and battery systems. We use thermal imaging and IV curve tracing on complex faults.

3
Fault Isolation

We systematically isolate the fault to the specific component, string, or connection. You receive a clear diagnosis with photographic evidence, a written explanation of the fault cause, and a repair recommendation.

4
Repair and Verify

Repair is completed using CEC-approved replacement components where required. Post-repair, we verify system output and confirm the fault is resolved via live monitoring before leaving site.

Brand-Specific Fault Diagnosis

We have in-depth technical knowledge of the most common inverter and battery brands installed across Canberra and regional NSW homes and businesses.

DC Isolator Safety Alert for Canberra and NSW Homes

Early-generation DC isolators installed in Australian solar systems prior to approximately 2012 have a known failure risk that can cause arc faults and roof fires. If your solar system was installed before 2013 and has not had its DC isolator inspected or replaced, this is a safety priority. Yass Valley Solar inspects DC isolators on all repair visits and can replace non-compliant or degraded units with current CEC-approved hardware.

What to Check Before You Call

These checks are safe for a homeowner to perform and may resolve a simple fault without a service call. If your system does not return to normal after these checks, contact Yass Valley Solar for a professional diagnostic inspection.

1

Check your inverter display

Look at the inverter screen. A green light typically means normal operation. A red or amber light, or an error code on the display, indicates a fault requiring diagnosis. Note the exact error code shown.

2

Check your isolator switches

There should be an AC isolator switch on the wall near the inverter and a DC isolator switch on the roof or near the inverter. Both must be switched to the ON position. If either has tripped to OFF, switch it back on and observe whether the inverter restarts. If it trips again immediately, do not continue resetting it -- contact us.

3

Check your monitoring app

Open your Fronius Solar.web or Enphase Enlighten app and check current production. Zero production during daylight hours confirms the fault. Note when production last showed in the history so we can identify when the fault began.

4

Check for a local power outage

Grid-connected solar systems in Canberra and NSW are required to shut down during a grid outage for safety reasons (unless you have a backup-capable battery system). Check Evoenergy or Essential Energy outage maps. If there is a local outage, your system should restart automatically once grid power is restored.

Do Not Attempt These Yourself

Opening or disassembling your inverter, Powerwall, or BYD battery unit. Solar system components carry lethal DC voltages.

Touching, cleaning, or handling cracked or damaged solar panels. Damaged panels can present electric shock risk even when isolated.

Accessing your roof to inspect panels or wiring. Roof access requires safety equipment and training.

Repeatedly resetting a tripping isolator or circuit breaker. Repeated tripping indicates an active fault that must be diagnosed before the circuit is re-energised.

Modifying inverter settings, export limits, or grid connection parameters. Incorrect settings can cause Evoenergy or Essential Energy compliance issues.

Solar Repairs FAQs

Common repair and fault questions from Canberra, Yass, and regional NSW solar system owners.

My solar system has stopped working in Canberra. What should I do?
First, check that your inverter is powered on and not showing a fault code on its display. Check that the AC and DC isolator switches near the inverter have not tripped to the off position. Open your monitoring app and check whether production shows as zero. If the system is showing zero production during daylight hours and all isolators are switched on, the system requires a professional fault diagnosis. Contact Yass Valley Solar for SAA-accredited fault diagnosis across Canberra, the ACT, and regional NSW.
How do I know if my solar inverter is faulty?
Common signs of a faulty solar inverter include a red or amber fault light on the inverter display, an error code shown on the inverter screen, zero production in your monitoring app during daylight hours, the inverter clicking on and off repeatedly, or the inverter being unresponsive or blank. Fronius inverters display specific state codes that indicate the fault type. Enphase systems report individual microinverter faults via the Enlighten monitoring portal. Any of these symptoms requires a professional diagnostic inspection.
Does Yass Valley Solar repair systems they did not install?
Yes. We provide repair and fault diagnosis services for solar systems regardless of the original installer, provided the system uses equipment we are qualified to service. We repair Fronius and Enphase inverter systems and service Tesla Powerwall 3, Fronius Reserva, and BYD Battery-Box storage systems across Canberra, the ACT, Yass, and surrounding regional NSW.
Why is my solar producing less power than expected?
Reduced solar output in Canberra and regional NSW can be caused by panel soiling or bird droppings, partial shading from new obstructions such as trees or structures, one or more failed microinverters, a degraded string inverter, wiring or connection faults, DC isolator deterioration, Evoenergy export limiting reducing system output at peak production times, or natural panel degradation over the system's lifespan. A performance audit by an SAA-accredited technician will isolate the specific cause.
What are common Fronius inverter fault codes in Canberra?
Common Fronius fault codes we see on Canberra and regional NSW systems include State 102 (AC voltage too high, frequently caused by high Evoenergy grid voltage in certain ACT suburbs), State 306 and 307 (DC input voltage out of range, often indicating a panel or wiring fault), State 401 to 407 (insulation or earth fault, a safety-related fault requiring prompt attention), and State 509 (no grid voltage detected). Some Fronius faults resolve automatically when grid conditions normalise. Persistent or recurring fault codes require an on-site diagnostic inspection.
My Tesla Powerwall is showing a fault. What should I do?
If your Tesla Powerwall is showing a fault or alert in the Tesla app, first check that the Powerwall gateway is connected to your home network and that the Powerwall is not in an extreme temperature condition such as direct summer sun in Canberra. Do not attempt to reset or service the Powerwall hardware yourself. Powerwall faults require diagnosis by an authorised installer. Yass Valley Solar is an authorised Tesla Powerwall installer and can diagnose and escalate Powerwall faults for Canberra, ACT, and regional NSW customers.
How long does a solar repair take and how quickly can you respond?
We aim to respond to repair enquiries within one business day and schedule site visits as quickly as possible for Canberra, Yass, and regional NSW customers. Simple faults such as tripped isolators can often be resolved in a single visit of one to two hours. Component replacements such as a failed inverter or DC isolator typically require one full day on-site plus lead time to source replacement parts. Complex fault isolation on larger commercial systems may require a staged diagnostic approach. We will give you a realistic timeline estimate once we have reviewed your system details.
What is a DC isolator and should I be concerned about mine?
A DC isolator is a safety switch located between your solar panels and the inverter. Early-generation DC isolators installed in Australian solar systems prior to approximately 2012 have a known failure risk, including arc faults that have caused roof fires. If your system was installed before 2013, or if the DC isolator shows discolouration, heat damage, or difficulty switching, an inspection is recommended as a safety priority. Yass Valley Solar inspects DC isolators on all repair visits and can replace non-compliant or degraded isolators with current CEC-approved hardware.
